2012 Suzuki V-Strom 650 ABS

2012 Suzuki V-Strom 650 ABS

The “adventure bike” in the modern era, but Suzuki was right there in 2002 with the V-Strom 1000, which it followed up with the 650 a year later. For 2012, here it comes again with a highly restyled version of the popular 650, complete with a more powerful and fuel-efficient 90-degree V-Twin. A new fuel tank, seat and body panels are designed with long-distance comfort and style in mind, while the bike’s fairing is said to provide increased wind protection and better engine heat management. At 32.9 inches, the seat’s about 15mm higher than the existing bike’s, but 20mm higher and lower seats are options. The new plastic rack and grab rails are designed to work with accessory hard luggage, though our American Suzuki PR person says he has no info as to its availability in the U.S.

In the engine bay, new cams and bigger valves are said to produce more low- and midrange power, along with increased top end, and a new crank with scissors-type primary gear smoothes delivery. A new closed-loop injection system with 32-bit processor metes out fuel 10-percent more efficiently than before, says Suzuki.

Up front, you get a 19-inch wheel stroking through 5.9 inches of travel; out back, a 17-incher with 6.3 inches—both of them part of a package Suzuki says weighs 472 pounds ready to roll, about 10 pounds heftier than the new Triumph Tiger 800XC and BMW F800GS (but about 13 pounds less than the existing Strom). The place we hope the new V-Strom will be substantially lighter than those Euro-bikes is the price-tag department; the 2011 model (also with standard ABS) retails for $8099. With the dollar weak against the yen lately, expect a price increase, for sure. Look for a First Ride soon, then look for the bike to appear at your Suzuki dealer, in Metallic Fox Orange or Glass Sparkle Black, around mid-November.

Suzuki Teases 2011 Middleweight Gixxer Motorcycles

Suzuki Teases 2011 Middleweight Gixxer Motorcycles2011 Suzuki GSX-R 600/750

Reliable source close to Suzuki have leaked an artist rendering of what the rumoured all-new 2011 GSX-R 600 and possibly the GSX-R 750 might look like. The Japanese company didn’t confirm when the new GSX-R will be available. The current GSX-R 600/750 was last updated in 2008 so it’s no surprise that the two models will get only minor updates. The biggest changes are the four new air intakes stacked to the sides of the slimmer headlamp. Mechanically, we expect a small weight reduction and an equally small increase of power. We’ll have the full details on the new models from Intermot ‘10 in Germany.

For the time being, the company has released just one teaser photo showing the 2011 600/750 identical twins, previewing what looks to be a 2009 GSX-R1000. No surprise here, as the same designer, Shigeru Uchiyama, was responsible for both versions.

There are only minor changes prepared for 2011, mostly to the visual aspect of the bikes, but a small weight reduction and power increase are also expected. Four new air intakes are placed on the side of a redesigned, slimmer headlamp that now uses a pile of high and low beams.

These slight changes will require only minor investments for Suzuki, but it will also offer a somewhat fresh perspective to the gixxer line. Consumers will get to see for themselves the 2011 Suzuki GXR-600 and 2011 Suzuki GSX-R750 models at the Intermot Cologne bike show on October 5.

2011 Suzuki GSR750 Teaser Sketch Released

2011 Suzuki GSR750 Teaser Sketch Released2011 Suzuki GSR750 Sketch

The competition will be fierce for the newly launched Z750R from Kawasaki, as another Japanese motorcycle manufacturer is showing its weapons in the sportsbike-derived naked machines battle. Suzuki is one such example, as it has just unveiled the official sketch of the 2011 GSR750 model.

Using the same engine, but likely with less horsepower as the company’s GSX-R750 model, the all-new GSR750 from Suzuki will claim its share of the affordable middleweight naked class.

Combining comfortable ergonomics with reasonable street performance might, however, might not be enough to draw attention upon itself, so Suzuki engineers could also look into finding solutions to keep the cost down.

Styling gets far more aggressive than what we've seen so far in Suzuki's naked bikes, like the designers have tried to fill in the gap between the lines of the Gladius and those of the B-King.

This is why the chassis, frame and suspension is expected to be made from cheaper materials in order to achieve a reasonable price of around EUR7,500. Aside from the 2011 Kawasaki Z750R, the GSR750 will also have to battle Yamaha FZ8, Aprilia Shiver and Triumph Street Triple in getting the attention of European customers.

Suzuki will be taking the wraps off its 2011 GSR750 naked machine at the Intermot Cologne motorcycle show early next month, but hopefully it will make a full unveil in photos and technical details ahead of the public event. Also, we might also soon witness the launch of the smallest gixxer in the series, the GSX-R125, that has been rumored for a while now.

Suzuki Hayabusa Gets Platinum Air Suspension Touch

Suzuki Hayabusa Gets Platinum Air Suspension TouchHayabusa dropped

The team of specialists at Platinum Air Suspension has introduced a superior air ride technology for Suzuki Hayabusa, a system that allows riders to set the rebound and ride height of their sportbike. The adjustment, which uses the company’s BLEED FEED technology, is made by the flip of a switch.

According to the guys at Platinum Air Suspension, ride and handling are significantly improved because there is no bottoming out or bouncing.

"We feel it is critical not to compromise handling and full suspension movement when adjusting the ride height of a high performance motorcycle like the Suzuki Hayabusa," said Platinum Air Suspension owner Mike Ferris.

The system includes an air cylinder, machined from 6061 T-6 billet aluminum. The kit includes an air-control valve, DOT approved quarter-inch air lines, fittings, air compressor, switch hardware and a line cutter. Detailed mounting instructions are included. Platinum kits are also available at additional cost in powder coat, anodize and chrome.

2010 Suzuki GSX-R750 Limited Edition Pays Tribute to 25 Years of SRADness

2010-Suzuki-GSX-R750-limited-edition-25th-anniversary

2010 Suzuki GSX-R750 Limited Edition (SIDE)

Helping celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the GSX-R750, Suzuki GB has come up with the 2010 Suzuki GSX-R750 Limited Edition, which sports a retro paint scheme circa 1996 and a Yoshimura GP Evo 111 exhaust. The GSX-R750 appears to be the first GSX-R to get the anniversary treatment, as Suzuki GB is teasing image spots for a GSX-R600 & GSX-R1000 Limited Editions as well.

2010 Suzuki GSX-R750 Limited Edition (REAR)

Only 25 of these bikes will be made, each one stamped with its batch number. No word on pricing, but hopefully Suzuki has some sense, and doesn’t price it like Yamaha did with the Rossi Limited Edition R1.
If you’re into the retro 90’s Suzuki look (who isn’t?), this might be the closest you’re going to get for a throw-back. We still would have preferred a ridiculously large SRAD sticker slapped on the bike, but that’s us.

25th Anniversary Suzuki GSX-R600

After 25 years of GSX-R750 which was inaugurated at the end of 2009, Suzuki GB has now released a special edition 25th Anniversary GSX-R600, only 25 units will be produced. The special edition is limited to just 25 models and comes with a Yoshimura exhaust, top yoke plaque and a certificate and will cost £8799 - £1000 over the standard bike.
The new Suzuki GSX-R600 comes with added midrange and low down grunt, but virtually the same at the top end as the old model. But that does not make it slow - far from it and in many ways makes the bike more usable, especially on the road. It doesn’t have the same top end rush of the new Yamaha R6 or Kawasaki ZX-6R, but it's by no means slow.

The new Suzuki GSX-R600 now comes with a slipper clutch as standard, and suspension at both ends is fully adjustable as you would expect from a supersport 600. What makes the GSX-R600 different is the three way mode switch which enables the rider to choose different power modes. A is full power, B mode is 80% and C mode is only 60% which equates to around 65bhp.

2010 will also see the inclusion of two fuel injectors per cylinder, a three-way selectable fuel map system (street, sport, rain), and a healthy dose of titanium pieces in the motor and chassis. If all (or even part) of these rumors are true, Suzuki will have once again raised the bar on the middleweight sportbike market.
